The first step that you’ll need to take is to sign up and create your account. Just like every other landing page builder, you won’t fully get the Instapage experience until you register your account. Once you log in, your dashboard will appear. This is where you can see a complete overview of the progress you are making. You won’t see much on your dashboard because this is your first attempt. It’s okay, you’ll learn how to create your own landing page. Let’s get started!
Building a Landing Page from Scratch
To create a landing page, simply click on “Landing Pages” on the left-side menu from your dashboard, then “Create Page.” Once you hit the button, you’ll instantly be greeted by a vast collection of around 200 landing page templates, each of which you can use and customize however you like for whatever you want to promote.
You’ll also be given the option to start with a blank page without any template or design (Blank Page), but that’s up to you if you think you have experience in building websites. We will build a landing page from scratch using templates that are already in use, as many people are reading this tutorial.
You have many options to choose from depending on the purpose of your campaign. Select the Use case filter to see a list of available templates. You may find a template that’s designed to convince users to download your app (App download), one geared toward signing people up for an upcoming event (Event registration), or one that’s made to simply thank them for purchasing your product/service (Thank you). Instapage has a template for every use case.
Let’s suppose we are creating a landing page for launching a product. What should you do? To start, you can pick “Product launch” from the use case filter, then select one of the multiple themes that will come up in the search results. A page preview will be displayed to you as you select the landing page design you feel best fits your product. This preview will give you an idea of the final product when it is made available to the public.
It’s up to the user to decide if they will use it. If, for some reason, you don’t vibe with the layout, and you can always go back and skim through until you find the perfect fit. Otherwise, if you like it, then you can click “Use this layout.” Once you’ve chosen your landing page design, you’ll need to come up with a name as a way to keep things in order.
Customizing Your Landing Page
With your chosen page layout now ready to go, the next step is to customize it according to your liking. You’ll be immediately redirected to the Instapage page builder, which happens to be one of my all-time favorites coming from the platform (an opinion that, surprisingly, everyone agrees!). This stage allows you to enhance the visual appeal and engagement of your landing page. The best part of it all is that you don’t need to do any of the work since Instapage does it for you.
Within the Instapage Builder, you can very easily drag and drop elements within the page anywhere you want, unlike the WordPress version, where you could try to pull any element, only for it to be locked in a certain row/column and not move entirely. It works in a similar way to the Photoshop interface. You won’t see any elements you drag get locked, so you can move your mouse around and drag-and drop as you please.
Although drag-and-drop may seem more Photoshop-like than the rest of Builder’s interface, it should still feel familiar to anyone who has used the WordPress editor before. You’ll find a full set of elements, widgets, and forms within your reach, and once you click on any of them, you can add as many tweaks as possible to make your landing page more presentable.
Adding Elements and Making Modifications
You can add and rearrange visual elements to your Instapage Builder experience. Additionally, you can add interactive features like surveys and text box forms to help capture user data easily while keeping them engaged. And that’s just for creating a full block – if you don’t have ample time to deal with it or are not confident enough with your page-building skills, you can always look at the Instapage Builder’s selection of block templates, each ready-to-use.
Every time you build a landing page, you’ll notice that the preview appears designed for desktop use. Instapage makes it easy to create a mobile-friendly version. That’s because every single one of its templates is automatically optimized for mobile use. Just like with editing the desktop version, you can conceal certain elements or even whole blocks from those who will go to your landing page using their smartphones.

Now comes the crucial part. Now you need to publish your page to make it available to your audience. A landing page is essential to promoting a product or service. - Drupal – If you are a large-scale Drupal user, your Instapage-made page can be published instantly by connecting it with the Drupal plug-in.
- Facebook – this option is useful if you expect most of your visitors to find your page via Facebook and you want to improve the user experience there
- Demo page – this is a quick and easy option for publishing your landing page if you don’t own a website domain; instead, you’ll be provided a subdomain from Instapage itself.
You can also download your page to be edited and modified for future use, or export it to co-workers and collaborators. If, for some reason, you’re not fully ready to publish it, you can always save its progress, and you can come back to it anytime.

Instapage’s Other Notable Features
Instablocks and Global Blocks
While you can add certain elements to create a block within a page, you get the added benefit of being able to save and reuse it whenever you want to create another page. You can also save your own blocks as Instablocks to cut down on the time it takes to build landing pages. These blocks can be used in future pages. Meanwhile, Global Blocks work similarly to Instablocks – the only difference between the two is that the design and layout of the former are specific to one page. The Global Blocks look consistent across all pages. If you make changes to a Global Block on a page, they will reflect on any other blocks. This feature can be useful if you have a section of your website, such as a header or footer, that you want to be consistent across multiple pages. You can disable this feature if you wish.

Instapage allows you to split-test multiple versions of a landing page by clicking on the “Traffic Split” button in the Builder, which enables you to compare different variations of the same page and analyze which performs better. You can create multiple versions of your page and decide the percentage of traffic to be sent to each variation.
